Although businessman Pëllumb Gjoka faces serious charges of providing conditions for murder, corruption and participation in a structured criminal group, the GJKKO sentenced him to 6 years in prison after benefiting from a summary trial. Meanwhile, the charge for the murder of Gjin Ndoji will be reviewed in a separate trial.
The Special Court Against Corruption and Organized Crime (GJKKO) has sentenced businessman Pëllumb Gjoka to 6 years in prison, in the context of the file known as “Metamorphosis”. This is considered the first sentence against Gjoka in this criminal proceeding, which is related to some of the charges filed by the Special Prosecution Office (SPAK).
According to the court's decision, Gjoka was found guilty of "providing the conditions and material means to commit murder" against citizens Kleanthi Musabelliu, Dorjan Duli and Ibrahim Lici. He also pleaded guilty to "active corruption of judicial officials" and participation in a "structured criminal group".
Initially, the GJKKO sentenced the businessman to 9 years in prison. However, due to the benefit of the summary trial, which results in a one-third reduction in the sentence, the final measure was reduced to 6 years in prison, which will be served in a high-security institution.
On the other hand, the court found Gjoka not guilty of the charge of "illegal possession and production of weapons, explosives and ammunition."
Meanwhile, the criminal proceedings related to the murder of Gjin Ndoji (Boriçi), an event that occurred on August 9, 2020 in Shkodra, will be examined in a separate judicial process.
In the same case, the GJKKO also found former State Police official Ardit Hasanbegaj guilty. He was accused of providing the conditions for the murders of Dorjan Duli and Ibrahim Lici, as well as participating in a structured criminal group.
The court sentenced Hasanbegaj to 7 years and 6 months in prison. After the application of the summary trial, his sentence was reduced to 5 years in prison in a high-security prison. As an additional measure, the court decided to remove his right to exercise public functions.
According to SPAK, several serious charges have been filed against Pëllumb Gjoka, including “premeditated murder” against Gjin Ndoji, “providing the conditions and material means to commit murder” against several citizens, “active corruption of judges, prosecutors and other justice officials”, as well as the charge of illegal possession of weapons. However, the decision announced by the GJKKO relates only to a portion of these charges, while other issues continue to be the subject of separate judicial proceedings.
