Vjollca Shkëmbi, the mother of the two-month-old baby who lost her life a few days ago, has leveled accusations against the healthcare system, claiming that her child was prematurely discharged from the hospital in Tirana, despite being born prematurely and needing specialized care.
Through tears, she confesses that the baby's condition was fragile from the beginning and, according to her, the doctors should have kept him under observation for longer.
"The state and the Tirana hospital are to blame for taking him out prematurely. I realized that the child was not well, because he was not eating or drinking. I demand that the police take action and investigate this incident," the mother told "Syri TV".
The baby's father, Arben Vesholliu, also says that the family did everything to keep the child under care, but according to him, the condition worsened due to premature birth and the lack of proper medical treatment.
He says that the baby was first sent to Korça, then to Bilisht and again to Tirana, while her condition continued to deteriorate.
"They told us he had to stay in Korça for a few days, but they didn't keep him. I took him to Bilisht and then to Tirana. When I returned to Pogradec, they told me that the boy had passed away," the father recounts.
Even the baby's grandmother, Alitrie Shkëmbi, says that the child was born with problems and that his upbringing was difficult.
According to her, the baby had a lung infection, often refused to feed and stayed asleep for long periods.
After his health deteriorated, doctors in Korça decided to send the baby for more specialized treatment at a pediatric hospital in Tirana, where he died.
The family members demand a full investigation into the circumstances of the incident and accountability if medical negligence is found.
