Dr. Neki Dredha was escorted to his final resting place amidst the pain and respect of citizens, friends, and family.
Today, one of the most respected figures of Vlora, but not only, Doctor Neki Dredhes, a name that for decades was closely associated with humanism, service to citizens, and the public life of the city, said goodbye.
The doctor, former mayor, intellectual and renowned creator was accompanied to his final resting place amidst the pain of his family, friends, colleagues and many citizens who knew and appreciated him throughout his life. The funeral ceremony took place this Thursday in Tirana, while messages of condolence and appreciation for his figure continue to be numerous.
For those who knew him closely, Dr. Neki Dredha was not just a doctor or an institutional leader. He was a man of wisdom, human communication, and a strong character, who maintained honesty and dignity throughout his life.
In Vlora he was known as a doctor who stood by people at all times, but also as an intellectual with broad culture and a special love for Albanian history, traditions and identity. His friends described him as a rare conversationalist, with an admirable memory and deep knowledge of Albanian literature, history and culture.
An important part of his life was also related to literature. Through his poetic and journalistic creations, Dr. Dredha brought love for Labëria, for his birthplace and its people. His works interwoven human sensitivity, life experience and a rich artistic language that made him unique in his creativity.
Those who have written and spoken about him have described him as a man with a noble spirit, a humanist, and a rich cultural world. A figure who never sought prominence, but who earned people's respect through his work, behavior, and contribution.
Dr. Neki Dredha's contribution was not limited to medicine. He also served in public life as Mayor of Vlora, and in 2013 he was honored with the title of "Honorary Citizen of Vlora", an award that reflected the great respect the city had for him.
Today, after his passing, Vlora loses one of the people who gave the most to the city with dedication, culture and humanism. But the name and work of Dr. Neki Dredha will remain long in the memory of those who knew him as the man who lived among the people and for the people.
