Florian Sulejmani has resigned as head of the Police Supervision Agency. Sulejmani reportedly submitted his resignation to Interior Minister Ervin Hoxha. The reasons for Sulejmani's resignation are still unknown, as he had been heading the AMP for at least two years. At the time, Sulejmani was appointed following a competition.
It is not known whether Sulejmani's resignation is related to Prime Minister Edi Rama's ultimatums demanding mass resignations from local and agency officials. A few days ago, Rama announced the 'dissolution' of the AKU, the agency responsible for food safety. And after that, Rama announced a deep reform in all state agencies.
About 4 months ago, Sulejmani faced a security measure from the Berat Prosecutor's Office, which suspended him from duty, but within 10 days of this measure, the Tirana Court suspended the measure.
More specifically, the Berat Prosecutor's Office announced on April 16 the imposition of the personal security measure "Suspension of the exercise of a public duty or service" against the General Director of the Police Supervision Agency, AMP, Florian Suljemani, within the framework of a criminal proceeding registered against him for the criminal offense of "Abuse of office". According to the prosecutor's office, the criminal case against Sulejmani concerns the transfer of Sulejmani's subordinates.
But on April 26, the Tirana Court issued a decision to lift the suspension measure against Florian Sulejmani. The decision came after a request filed by the Tirana prosecution, which argued that the conditions to maintain the prohibitory measure no longer existed.
The prosecutor's office representative explained that the official's previous actions had not had direct consequences on the functioning of the institution.
