As the Directorate of Prisons has increased controls to prevent the introduction of illegal items into prisons, the former director of Peqin Prison, Faik Basha, has revealed a case of an attempt to introduce mobile phones hidden inside a "PlayStation" device.
Basha stated that the information had arrived in advance and that electronic devices brought into the prison are checked by a special team.
"I had a case where I received information that phones were brought in through electronic devices and will come in by mail. There is a team that checks all the devices that are brought in. Once a week on Friday at 2:00, we had it, the commission meets, we had an electrician because you need to have an IT specialist, but as long as it is enough, it is OK and the heads of the external and internal service that we assist," Basha told "A2 CNN".
According to him, during the inspection, the device initially appeared functional, but then the process of opening it began.
"We checked the devices and left these devices for last and the device was found. It was an old Playstation model. It was plugged in, it worked and then the process of opening the inside would be done, it was a little difficult. When the device was opened, there were 4 phones inside, they had gone to an expert of these devices who had created space and opportunities to put it inside and make it functional," he emphasized.
Basha also added that equipment such as refrigerators and televisions are usually not opened for internal inspection, as they are purchased directly by the institution in large shopping centers.
