The Transparency Board changes prices again, oil and gasoline are reduced

Fuel prices in Albania are decreasing again, diesel drops to 185 lek per liter and gasoline to 173 lek per liter.

The Transparency Board has decided to reduce fuel prices in the country.

Starting at 1:00 PM this Friday, diesel will be sold at no more than 185 lek per liter , or 2 lek less compared to the board's last decision. Meanwhile, gasoline will be sold at a maximum of 173 lek per liter , marking a decrease of 1 lek from the previous price.

According to the decision taken at today's meeting, May 30, 2026, the wholesale price for diesel has been set at 173 lek per liter, down from 175 lek previously. While for gasoline, the wholesale price has been reduced from 162 to 161 lek per liter.

The Board announces that the new prices will remain in effect until the next meeting, when possible changes in international markets will be reflected.

The authorities have reminded market operators of their obligation to implement the decision, warning of administrative measures up to and including suspension of activity in case of violations.

While for the fishing sector, the price of diesel has been set at 90 lek per liter, in accordance with the fiscal exemptions provided for in the legislation in force.

The Transparency Board on May 29, 2026, at its next meeting, decided:

The retail price of the gasoil by-product of the SSH EN 590 standard shall be no more than 185 lek/liter, while the wholesale price shall be no more than 173 lek/liter.

The retail price of the SSH EN standard gasoline by-product should be no more than 173 lek/liter, while the wholesale price should be no more than 161 lek/liter.

The prices set by the Board will come into effect today, the 29th, at 1:00 p.m. and will be valid until the next board meeting where the changes in sales prices will be reflected.

We draw the attention of every operator of wholesale and retail sales of petroleum by-products to the obligation to implement this decision.

In case of violations found by various operators, the suspension of activity will be decided.

The Ministry of Economy and Innovation, together with the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy, are committed to protecting the interests of Albanian consumers and preserving the principles of fair competition in the market.

EXPLANATION: Referring to Normative Act No. 1, Date 3.4.2026 “On an addition to Law No. 61/2012, “On excise duties in the Republic of Albania,” as amended, which provides that if the retail price for diesel is higher than 220 lek/liter, or for gasoline is higher than 200 lek/liter, the 80% excise duty level shall be applied. Based on the application of the methodology for calculating the retail price ceiling, the prices are below the limit of Normative Act No. 1, date 3.4.2026, and consequently the excise duty level shall be applied in full, 100%.

Fishing diesel - the selling price of fishing diesel, referred to Law 9975, dated 28.07.2008 “On National Taxes”, in Article 9 “Exemptions from the payment of national taxes”, point 6 it is provided: …“Fishing vessels are exempt from the payment of the turnover tax and the carbon tax. Also referred to Article 10, point 3 letter “d” of Law 61/2012 “On excise duties in the Republic of Albania”, the exemption from excise duties of fuel for fishing vessels is provided, in the quantities, conditions and criteria determined in the Council of Ministers. Referring to the methodology determined in the normative act, the selling price of fishing diesel results in 90 lek.
