Albanian criminals, including those who arrived on small dinghies, are being sentenced to prison at a rate of one person every two days.

According to 'The Telegraph',   during the first three months of the year, around 63 Albanians were sent to prison with a total of 207 years of sentence.

Albanians make up 9 percent of all prisoners in British prisons, and many of them are believed to have entered illegally by crossing the Channel to enter Britain.

The Balkan country has the highest percentage of the 10,376 foreign nationals held in prisons in England and Wales, followed by Ireland and Poland, both with 7 percent.

Drug-related offenses and thefts accounted for a large portion of the sentences handed down from January to March, but one individual was found guilty of murdering his three-month-old baby.

Each prisoner costs the taxpayer £60,018 a year to keep in prison, almost £800 million if everyone served their full sentences.

Klevi Pirjani was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his three-month-old son.

The increase in the number of Albanian nationals being sentenced to prison has been attributed to the increase in dinghy arrivals in 2022, when a record 12,551 people arrived in the United Kingdom.

National Crime Agency (NCA) officials said at the time that a “significant number” of Albanians in the UK had entered illegally to work in the “grey” economy, or for criminal drug gangs, and were sending “hundreds of millions of pounds” to Albania each year.

The NCA said the pull of the grey economy, which encourages migrants to work in construction and hospitality or in car washes and barbershops for £100 a day, was “quite overwhelming” for the poorest Albanians.

Among those sentenced in March were two Albanian brothers, Kreshnik and Vitlum Hasanaj, who each received five years in prison for the large-scale supply of cocaine in Maidstone, Kent, through a dedicated telephone number known as the “Vito line”.

Drug dealer Henry Nicholls, 19, was sentenced to six years and three months in prison after several converted guns and the remains of a cannabis farm were found at his home in Potters Bar, Hertfordshire.

Among those convicted was a group of five Albanian men linked to more than 40 burglaries in the Midlands and the north of England, where more than £1m worth of property was stolen, including jewellery, designer handbags, watches and cash.

Last month, Klevi Pirjani was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of his three-month-old son, Miguel. Scans showed that the baby had suffered a fractured skull and other injuries in the weeks before his death.

Foreign nationals sentenced to 12 months or more in prison automatically receive a deportation order upon entering prison.

New laws proposed by Labour would see some prisoners deported as soon as they are sentenced. Under current rules, they can be released after serving just 30 percent of their sentence.

Under a fast-track deal with Albania, the government is organising deportation flights to the Balkan country almost every week. Last week, 50 criminals and rejected asylum seekers were deported, with total sentences of almost 70 years.

"I pledged to increase deportations of illegal immigrants, and we have done so. Almost 60,000 illegal immigrants and foreign criminals have been removed or deported, but we must go further. I will do whatever it takes to restore order and control," British Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood said in a post on X.
