UEFA has imposed seven-year bans on two European clubs, excluding them from all its competitions due to serious disciplinary and match integrity breaches.
FK Ventspils from Latvia was banned from UEFA competitions for fraud, bribery and corruption, as well as breaches of the integrity of matches and competitions. The investigation focused on a Europa League qualifying match in July 2018 against French team Bordeaux, which was not implicated. Ventspils president Adlan Shishkanov was banned for life by UEFA's Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body. The ban is valid until the 2027 season, but this is no longer the case, as FK Ventspils was dissolved and replaced by JFK Ventspils, which competes in the Latvian second division.
Another club facing a seven-year ban is Montenegro's FK Arsenal Tivat, accused of match-fixing and breaching competition integrity rules. UEFA's investigation focused on a Conference League match against Armenian side Alashkert, and as a result the club initially received a 10-year suspension, while the team's defender, Nikola Celebic, was banned for life.
These measures follow UEFA's decision to also ban all Russian clubs, a measure taken after Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
