The world of Argentine football has been shocked by the news of the passing of young midfielder Camilo Nuin, just 18 years old, who passed away during knee surgery.
His club, San Telmo, confirmed the sad news on Wednesday evening, saying that the player was undergoing routine surgery at the Clínica Espora in Adrogué, Buenos Aires. The operation was aimed at treating injuries to the meniscus and cruciate ligament, a common procedure for athletes.
However, the causes of death have not yet been announced and authorities have launched an investigation to clarify the circumstances of the tragedy.
In an official statement, San Telmo said: “ SAN TELMO IN MOURNING. With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Kamilo Ernesto Nuin, a player from our Youth Divisions and reserve team. The club will remain closed during the day in mourning. We stand by his family, friends and teammates in this difficult moment .”
Kamilo Nuin had been part of San Telmo since 2022, having previously moved to the academies of Boca Juniors and Independiente, where he had accumulated over 80 appearances with the youth teams.
Tributes have also come from the Argentine Football Association (AFA), which said in a statement:
" The Argentine Football Association, through its president Claudio Tapia and the executive committee, expresses its sorrow for the death of Camilo Nuin and extends its condolences to the player's family ."
San Telmo, a club based in Buenos Aires, competes in the second division of Argentine football.
