Kolkata will unveil what local authorities describe as the world's tallest statue dedicated to Lionel Messi, a 20-meter-tall iron structure built by a local sports club, to coincide with the Argentine footballer's arrival in India.
The statue, located in the Lake Town neighborhood, depicts Messi lifting the World Cup trophy and, according to its creators, was completed in approximately 40 days, with the finishing touches still being put in place.

" This is a 20-meter statue. There is no other statue of Messi this big. We built it in 40 days ," said Sujit Bose.
The unveiling will mark the start of the Argentine player's visit to India as part of his 'GOAT Tour', which will take him to some of the country's major cities over three days, first Kolkata, then Hyderabad, Mumbai and New Delhi.

Organizers explained that the unveiling will be held virtually, as Messi will not be able to travel to India due to concerns about security and public order, although his arrival in the city is planned as part of his visit to the country.
