World Cup qualifiers/ Netherlands and Austria do the job, England disappoints

-At the "Bilino Polje" stadium in Zenica, Bosnia and Herzegovina narrowly won 1-0 against San Marino in Group H of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. This match, valid for the third round of qualifiers, confirmed expectations for a Bosnian victory, but also showed the unexpected resilience of San Marino, one of the weakest teams in Europe.

The match began with Bosnia as the absolute favorites, given their high FIFA ranking and the experience of players like Edin Džeko, compared to San Marino, who are at the bottom of the FIFA rankings and are considered the “worst team in the world.” However, San Marino showed a disciplined defensive performance, keeping the score 0–0 until the 66th minute, when Džeko scored the only goal of the match.

- England won 0-1 against Andorra at the Estadi Nacional stadium in Andorra la Vella, as part of Group K matches of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. The match showed a poor performance by England against a weak opponent like Andorra, ranked at the bottom of the FIFA rankings.

- Austria opened its 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign with a deserved 2-1 victory against Romania, in the match played at the Ernst-Happel-Stadion stadium, as part of Group H. A dominant performance from the home team, with goals from Michael Gregoritsch and Marcel Sabitzer, secured the first three points for the team led by Ralf Rangnick, despite a late goal from Romania.

The match started with Austria in control, holding 60.1% of possession and dominating with 9 shots on goal compared to Romania's 3. Gregoritsch opened the scoring in the 42nd minute with a precise shot from the centre of the area, following a well-organised move by the home team. In the second half, Sabitzer doubled the lead in the 60th minute, with a goal assisted by Romano Schmid, taking advantage of an unfortunate deflection by the Romanian goalkeeper. Romania responded late with a goal from Răzvan Marin in the 82nd minute, but failed to equalise, despite a strong push in the closing minutes.

- The Netherlands kicked off their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign with a clean 0-2 win against Finland, in a Group G match played at the Helsinki Olympic Stadium. Goals from Memphis Depay and Denzel Dumfries secured the first three points for the "Oranje" led by coach Ronald Koeman, setting the tone for a successful qualifying campaign.
