This was accomplished this afternoon by wrestler Chermen Valiev, who received the bronze medal at the "Paris 2024" Olympic Games. He came third in the 74kg weight class, in the freestyle.
An excellent performance by the 25-year-old Albanian wrestler, Russian, but naturalized this year, who honored the red and black colors, giving Albania its first Olympic medal in history. In the challenge for the bronze medal, held at the "Champs de Mars Arena", Valiev defeated Viktor Rassadin of Tajikistan 6-2, in an extraordinary encounter.
A challenge dominated by Valiev, who won 2-0 after the first period and then deepened the lead in the second period, controlling the challenge and deserving the victory. In this tournament, Valiev achieved three wins and one loss. In the first round, he defeated Turan Bayramov of Azerbaijan 4-3, while in the quarterfinals he was defeated 6-5 by Razambek Jamalov of Uzbekistan.
In the "rematch", he won 12-2 against Mohamedkhabib Kadzimahamedau, Russian, but competing as a neutral. And finally, the "icing on the cake", the victory over Rassadin, which gave him the bronze medal.
Who is Chermen Valiev?
Chermen Akhsarbekovich Valiev was born on December 10, 1998 in North Ossetia, Russia and is currently a freestyle wrestler competing at 74 kilograms for Albania.
For his native Russia, Valiev has won a world title and a European U23 title, a Russian national champion and is a multiple gold medalist in international tournaments.
Since moving to Albania in 2024, Valiev qualified to represent Albania at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris by placing third in the Olympic World Qualifying Tournament.
In the ten tournaments of the Olympic Games that Albania has participated, it took a Russian from North Ossetia to naturalize as red and black, to give Albania its first medal (bronze) in the history of the Olympics.
