Gabriele Gravina has resigned as president of the Italian Football Federation (FIGC), paving the way for new elections to be held on June 22. In an analytical document drafted by him, Gravina presents the current state of Italian football, highlighting the main problems and proposing a package of reforms for the future.
According to the former president's analysis, the Italian football system faces several structural challenges:
- Low number of Italian and young players in circulation
- Limited percentage of activation of local footballers
- Insufficient investment in the youth sector
- An economic model difficult for clubs to cope with
- Pronounced gap in infrastructure
- Lack of ability to build a functional and sustainable system
- In the document, Gravina suggests a series of concrete measures:
- Inclusion of football in betting revenues, through a dedicated percentage
- Lifting the ban on advertising by betting operators
- Return of the "Growth Decree" to increase competitiveness in the market
- Support for the construction of new stadiums and the modernization of existing facilities, also in view of Euro 2032
- Reform in the arbitration sector
- Restructuring of championships (currently difficult due to lack of consensus between the parties)
