Italy is about to embark on a new era at the national team's helm. The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) is finalizing the process to select a coach who will lead the "Azzurri" until the 2030 World Cup.
According to Italian media reports, president Giovanni Malago, along with technical director Paolo Maldini and Leonardo, have narrowed the list of candidates to four well-known names in European football.
Andrea Pirlo is currently considered the frontrunner, thanks to his modern ideas and philosophy of play. Antonio Conte , long one of the favourites for the job, and Roberto Mancini , who enjoys considerable support within the federation, are also in the running.
Pep Guardiola is also on the list , the name that would excite the fans the most. However, the approach of the Spanish technician is seen as a difficult mission due to the high financial cost and the conditions that must be met to realize the agreement. Meanwhile, the president of the Italian Olympic Committee has publicly stated that he would prefer that an Italian coach be appointed at the head of the National Team.
At the moment, the date of the official appointment of the new coach has not been announced, but signals from the federation indicate that the decision is very close. The goal is that by July 23, when the new national team project will be presented in Lega Calcio, Italy will officially have a new coach.
