A large-scale anti-drug operation in Istanbul has led to the detention of 22 people, including some of Turkey's most prominent figures in the worlds of art, television and social media. The operation was carried out as part of an investigation led by the Istanbul Chief Prosecutor's Office.
The most attention has been drawn to the name of the famous actress Beren Saat, who enjoys great popularity in Albania thanks to her roles in the series "Forbidden Love" and "Sultanesha Kosem".
According to Turkish authorities, the operation took place in the early hours of June 11, as part of an investigation into drug trafficking and use. Police forces carried out simultaneous checks in several areas of Istanbul, escorting 22 suspects for verification.
Among the banned people are singer Kenan Doğulu, artist Ayşe Hatun Önal, moderators and influencers Kerimcan Durmaz and Selin Ciğerci, as well as other well-known names such as Ozan Doğulu, Berdan Mardini and Enis Arıkan.
The list of those escorted also includes Tolga Çam, Ferhan Kaya, Murat Saygı, Enis Ahmet Onat, Ahmet Karoğlu, Emre Tari, Hasan Vatan, Mehmet Cem Karcı, Reyhan Küçükyeğen, Yaşar İpek, Mehmet Yıldız, Tessy Ramos Correira, Rafet Eren Yorulmazer and Ali Efe Bezci.
So far, authorities have not released full details of the charges against each of the detainees. In the meantime, police procedures are ongoing and the Istanbul Prosecutor's Office has announced that the investigations remain open.
The involvement of well-known figures from the screen and music industry has turned this operation into one of the most commented events of recent days in Turkish and international media.
