Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez's wedding festivities officially began with a dinner reception in Venice on Thursday evening, June 26, at a private venue near the Madonna dell'Orto church. The couple will tie the knot over the weekend in a ceremony that has garnered worldwide attention. For the occasion, Lauren Sanchez wore a gold Schiaparelli gown, while Jeff Bezos wore a classic black suit and white shirt. The couple were photographed leaving the Aman hotel, with Bezos helping his future wife onto the boat.
Guests arrived in an impressive convoy of around 30 Venetian boats, under heightened security. Police patrolled the lagoon with jet skis, while a canal was completely blocked for the safe transport of guests.
Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez arrived under a tight police cordon and exchanged a kiss just before disembarking.
The guest list included Tom Brady, Orlando Bloom, Leonardo DiCaprio, Kim Kardashian, Kendall, Kylie and Kris Jenner, Khloe Kardashian, Oprah Winfrey with Gayle King, as well as fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger with his wife, Dee.
The atmosphere, according to sources, was described as "surprisingly calm" despite the shifting of guests.
The venue was decorated with floral arrangements in shades of white and purple, and a piano was placed in the hall for musical accompaniment. The menu was inspired by Italian cuisine.
The couple chose not to accept gifts at their wedding, but instead asked guests in the invitation to donate to charity in Venice.
Meanwhile, 80% of the wedding supplies are coming from local manufacturers. The couple and some of the guests are staying at the Aman Hotel, where George and Amal Clooney also got married in 2014.
The wedding ceremony is expected to take place over the weekend, while details of the exact program have not yet been announced.
