An unusual incident occurred on a Thai Lion Air flight from Bangkok, where an overweight passenger was dragged off the plane after he clashed with on-board staff due to a lack of space in his seat.
The passenger, seen wearing an orange T-shirt, complained about the lack of space in his window seat and asked to be moved to the emergency exit seat, where there is more legroom. However, his request was denied by the flight crew.
This refusal caused him to become enraged, forcing staff to call the police. The flight was delayed for about an hour until authorities arrived on the scene and dragged him off the Boeing 737.
Footage circulating on social media shows officers trying to remove the stubborn passenger, who at one point lies on the floor blocking the aisle in protest. Other passengers can be heard shouting at him: "Get out of the way!", while a woman calls him "so selfish."
"At first we thought the man was sick, but then we realized he was not happy with the economic situation and insisted on more space," said a witness.
The flight was delayed by an hour from Don Mueang International Airport after the passenger was forcibly escorted out. The incident comes amid ongoing debate over weight policies in air travel.
Some airlines have experimented with weight-based fees to optimize fuel consumption and reduce emissions.
Although the 'fat tax' introduced by Samoa Air in 2013 was unsuccessful, Finnair has recently launched an initiative to collect voluntary data on passenger weight for statistical and technical purposes.
