The organizers of the Eurovision Song Contest have announced that the online meeting planned for November to vote on Israel's participation will not take place, following the ceasefire agreement in Gaza.
Austria, which will host the 2026 contest in Vienna, had called for participating countries not to boycott the competition because of Israel's participation, despite concerns over the two-year conflict in Gaza.
Eurovision has been at the center of controversy this year, with several countries warning of pulling out if Israel participated.
The Austrian state broadcaster, which will organize the contest, welcomed the decision of the European Union of Public Broadcasters, EBU.
According to the EBU statement, “The Council agreed that the issue will be included on the agenda of the Winter General Assembly, which will be held in December,” replacing the extraordinary online meeting scheduled for November. Due to “recent developments in the Middle East,” the Executive Council decided that the discussion on Israel’s participation in Eurovision 2026 would take place in person among members.
The EBU has not given details on when the vote on the participation of the Israeli network KAN might be held, announcing that further information will be published in the coming weeks.
