The Kosovo Special Prosecution Office has opened an investigation into threats directed at President Vjosa Osmani. The institution has registered the case as a criminal offense related to violence against high-ranking state representatives.

According to the Special Prosecution, the criminal proceedings are related to the provisions of the Criminal Code of Kosovo that deal with crimes against high-ranking representatives of the Republic. The investigation was initiated after the publication of threatening messages against the president.

The Prosecution has authorized the Directorate for the Investigation of Organized Crime and Serious Crimes in the Kosovo Police to conduct investigative actions. The police must collect evidence and clarify the circumstances of the case, with the aim of protecting the legal order and the safety of officials and citizens.

"The Special Prosecution of the Republic of Kosovo informs the public that today it has initiated a criminal case regarding threats against the President of the Republic of Kosovo, Ms. Vjosa Osmani-Sadriu, in relation to the criminal offense "Violence against high representatives of the Republic of Kosovo, under Article 121 in connection with Article 119 paragraph 1, subparagraph 1.1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kosovo" , the Prosecution's announcement states.

The public debate was also fueled by the reactions on social media of Halil Geci. He described the president's decision to dissolve the parliament as a betrayal. The president took this step after the parliament failed to elect a new president within the constitutional deadline.

The presidency reacted to the language that includes calls for the execution of the president. According to the institutional response, the use of such terms in political debate constitutes incitement to hatred and normalizes political violence. The presidency's institution called on law enforcement and justice bodies to handle cases of threats according to the law and with urgency.
