"You are the best president of the 21st century", Osmani: Kurti had promised me support for a second term
Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani has revealed the behind-the-scenes details of her relationship with Prime Minister Albin Kurti, admitting that she feels a "personal betrayal" after the changes in political relations between them.
In an interview for the show, Osmani revealed that at the beginning of their collaboration, Kurti had given him full support and had publicly praised him for his work as head of state.
According to her, the Prime Minister had even promised her support for another presidential term.
" Kurti has pledged to support me in such a cause and has told me that our union is in the interest of Kosovo. He told me: 'You are the best president in the 21st century ,'" Osmani declared.
However, according to her, the situation changed later, when a clear message came from Kurti and the Vetëvendosje parliamentary group that her candidacy would no longer be supported.
" When it became clear that there was a possibility that I would be re-elected, Prime Minister Kurti's assessment came that he personally and the parliamentary group do not support my candidacy. I have accepted it as a fact ," the president said.
The "conspiracy" with Rama
Osmani also strongly rejected the accusations that have circulated in politics and social networks about a secret agreement with the Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama, to overthrow the Kurti government.
She called these claims "absurd and dangerous," noting that such narratives have also fueled public calls for violence against her.
" To be on a par with Vučić is dangerous. There have even been public calls for my shooting ," Osmani said, adding that law enforcement institutions have been notified of these threats.
The president publicly challenged all accusers to present evidence for any claim of conspiracy or political agreement with the Albanian prime minister.
" I call on everyone, from the prime minister to the last MP: where do you have the facts? Where do you have the evidence that the president of Kosovo is involved in any conspiracy, much less with Prime Minister Rama? " she said.
Relations with Albania and political clashes
Osmani admitted that she had open differences with Rama on various issues, including the "Open Balkan" initiative, towards which she has maintained a critical stance.
However, according to her, at a time of great challenges for Kosovo, it is important that the country maintains functional relations with Albania and international allies.
The President indicated that during international visits she has often faced questions from partners about the clashes between Pristina and Tirana.
“ When I spoke about the aggression and pressure from Serbia, I was often asked: 'Okay, we understand with Serbia, but what about Albania?' These are moments that every leader should reflect on ,” said Osmani.
According to her, the energy of internal political debates should be directed more against Serbia's policies and not against Kosovo's institutions. / Pamphlet
