Following the ouster of Erion Veliaj from the Municipal Council, Edi Rama today gathered the Socialists of Tirana in a meeting, attended by ministers, deputies and former deputies of the Socialist Party. The Prime Minister's speech was both an attack on the opposition and a mobiliser for his political structures, on the eve of the elections that will be held for the leadership of the capital.
At the beginning of his speech, Rama focused on the situation created by Veliaj's dismissal, using it to attack political opponents:
" Be it the stalls and the half-truths against him, these are topics we cannot enter as a party, because dealing with caricatures is a waste of time, while dealing with justice is a loss of direction. In a history of justice full of question marks, which it is not known how long it will last, do not take the president of Albania hostage ."
Describing Tirana as the "locomotive of Albania", Rama said that the job of the socialists is to address the vacuum at the head of the municipality and immediately prepare for the elections: " Our job is to address the vacuum in the Municipality of Tirana without wasting time, because Tirana cannot rise and fall indefinitely with a headless Tirana, which, not having an elected official at its head, does not have the opportunity to lead them towards the future. Today, let us start working on the new elections in Tirana, where with the right candidate, with the right ambition and with the right organization we will get the right result, to give the locomotive of Albania the right speed ."
In this context, Rama once again announced his full support for Ogerta Manastirliu as the SP candidate for the Municipality of Tirana, describing her as a calm profile and capable of leading the capital: " I am very glad that Orgeta's candidacy has found the support of our large political family, where everyone appreciates our candidate for Tirana and it is her turn to lead Tirana with the calmness that has always characterized her in the tasks she has carried out so far. So strong is Orgeta's approach to the municipality, that there is so little interest in who her rival from other parties will be, who will enter lost and will come out even more lost ."
