President Bajram Begaj began an official visit to Hungary today, where he was received by his counterpart Tamas Sulyok.
Strengthening bilateral relations based on a historic friendship, finalizing Albania's EU membership process, and the security situation in the region and Europe were the focus of this visit.
Presidents Begaj and Sulyok initially held a 'head-to-head' meeting and then together with the respective delegations.
The Head of State received Hungary's full and open support for the finalization of Albania's accession negotiations to the European Union, a path that Hungary has opened.
President Begaj conveyed his gratitude to his counterpart, expressing that Albania will not forget this support from Hungary, which has been determined for the membership of Albania and the Western Balkans in the EU.
"I expressed gratitude in our meeting to the President and friendly Hungary for the strong, unwavering and unconditional support that Hungary provides for the accession process of Albania and the entire Western Balkans to the European Union. The technical assistance and expertise provided by Hungary to Albanian institutions has contributed to the strengthening of public administration and the implementation of important reforms."
In this regard, Presidents Begaj and Sulyok emphasized the importance of EU membership based on merit, and Albania, according to the Hungarian President, deserves to be part of the European Union.
During the conversation, the significant intensification of political dialogue, which is one of the main pillars of Albania-Hungary relations, was also noted, while the shared conviction was expressed that this spirit will continue to yield tangible results in all areas of cooperation.
Begaj also praised the positive progress of Albania-Hungary relations and the ever-growing cooperation between the two countries in this year of the 103rd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
"I express my conviction that with this spirit of friendship of today's visit and our cooperation, deepened in the future, it will increase the excellent relations between Albania and Hungary, for the benefit of our citizens, for the benefit of the stability and prosperity of the region and Europe."
Begaj also emphasized that Albania offers favorable opportunities for new Hungarian investors.
The Head of State expressed the will to expand cooperation in the field of justice and in other sectors of importance to the citizens of the two countries.
Regarding security issues, the joint commitment of Albania and Hungary, as two countries in NATO, to collective defense and Euro-Atlantic security was expressed.
Regarding the region, President Begaj reaffirmed his position on the importance of KFOR for security, underlining that Kosovo and the Albanians living there are a priority for Albania.
