President Bajram Begaj, today received in a meeting the US Commander for Europe and Supreme Commander of the Allied Command Europe, General Alexus G. Gryenkwich.
The Head of State praised his visit as clear evidence of the commitment of the US and NATO to Albania and the region.
"Albanians wherever they live in the region are grateful to the United States for their historic contribution to us," emphasized President Begaj.
Begaj praised the US - A5 Adriatic Charter initiative as an initiative that has contributed to the membership of the countries of the region in NATO, but also to increasing security and cooperation in the region.
"Albania is grateful to the US for its contribution to the modernization of the armed forces, as well as for any assistance they have provided for Albania's Euro-Atlantic integration," Begaj added.
The conversation also focused on the security challenges we are facing.
President Begaj emphasized that Albania values KFOR as an important factor of stability and security for the entire region and that the continued presence of the US in the region is a necessity.
The President of the Republic also considered the continuation of joint exercises such as "Defender Europe" to be very important.
The Head of State stated that "Albania will continue to be an active contributor to collective defense through participation in NATO missions and operations, with investments in air, land and maritime infrastructure, where strategic importance has been given to the Port of Porto Romano and Corridor 8."
President Begaj reconfirmed at the meeting that Albania is deeply committed to strengthening the strategic partnership with the US and a committed member of NATO.
