Berisha demands withdrawal of the agenda in the Assembly: You are confronting
Berisha in the Parliament

The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has requested the withdrawal of the agenda from the plenary session of the Parliament, arguing that the priority should be the concerns of the citizens who have been protesting in the capital for 18 days.

During his speech from the Parliament podium, Berisha declared that thousands of citizens and young people have filled the streets and squares of Tirana in what he described as a historic, unprecedented and entirely peaceful movement.

According to him, the protests represent a civic reaction against what he considered an authoritarian government, while rejecting any attempt to label the protesters as extremists, fascists or anti-Semites.

Berisha made strong accusations against the government, describing Albania as "the only narco-state in Europe," while emphasizing that the protesting citizens are demanding the removal of Prime Minister Edi Rama.

The leader of the Democrats called on the Parliament to listen to the voices of the protesters and their demands, insisting that the parliamentary debate should focus on the situation that, according to him, is taking place outside the Parliament hall.

"Mr. Speaker, in the minutes you have censored entire sentences because of your horror at my words. But the citizens have heard them and that is not the purpose of my taking the floor."

The purpose of my speech is that everything you read there, from beginning to end, is a challenge, it is a mockery, it is contempt for the protest of hundreds of thousands of Albanians who have one of the most right-wing agendas ever, an agenda that was strongly supported by the European Parliament yesterday.

This parliament cannot address any issue other than the citizens' agenda in the largest protest in the history of this country.

"So, I withdraw the agenda, let's get back to the agenda. I think this is the absolute obligation of this parliament so that it doesn't end up where it deserves as soon as possible," said Berisha.
