At a meeting of party structures, the opposition leader raised accusations of corruption, interference in justice, and obstruction of European integration.
The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has accused Prime Minister Edi Rama of using his parliamentary majority to block justice and to protect, according to him, his close officials and family members.
The statements were made during a meeting with party leaders and coordinators, where Berisha stressed that the political situation in the country is at a "dangerous crossroads."
According to Berisha, the prime minister has intervened to obstruct legal proceedings against senior officials, specifically citing the refusal to arrest a minister, whom he linked to suspected corruption cases.
He claimed that these actions were taken to avoid investigations that, according to him, could directly affect the prime minister himself.
During his speech, Berisha mentioned several files that he described as documented, including the energy sector and public institutions, which he claims have been involved in affairs with large financial values.
He also stated that these issues, according to him, have become part of international scrutiny, although he did not provide concrete details on the relevant procedures or institutions.
Berisha also focused on the European integration process, claiming that the government's actions have negatively affected the assessments of European Union institutions.
He said that an interim report on Albania has not received full support and that, according to him, more countries have raised concerns about standards in the country.
In his speech, the opposition leader also criticized the Albanian government's approach towards Serbia, claiming inappropriate cooperation with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, especially in relation to the European integration process.
