The large-scale fire that engulfed the villages of Drize and Peshtan has been completely extinguished after coordinated intervention by air and ground forces.
According to official data, the natural disaster began on 05.07.2026 at around 11:00 and was localized and then extinguished at 20:20. The fire engulfed areas of bushes and olive groves, burning about 100–110 hectares.
Police have arrested 20-year-old Nikolin Jaso, who is suspected of setting fire to land owned by his father to burn herbs.
Numerous forces were deployed in the extensive extinguishing operation, including helicopters and firefighting vehicles from several municipalities in the Fier region, as well as forces from the Armed Forces.
In total, 4 aerial vehicles and 15 firefighting vehicles were used, supported by 70 firefighters, 35 Armed Forces personnel, 40 police officers, as well as dozens of municipal and volunteer forces from surrounding areas.
Due to the risk of spreading near homes, 12 families were temporarily evacuated, while thanks to timely intervention, damage to residential structures was avoided, although the flames reached the yards with vegetation.
"A fire broke out on land owned by his father, in the village of Drizë, but the flames got out of control and spread to the territory of several villages. The timely reaction of the Police led to the identification and arrest in flagrante delicto of the suspected arsonist.
Following the investigative actions to clarify the circumstances of the fire that broke out in the village of Drizë, Fier, the Crime Investigation specialists at the Fier Police Commissariat arrested the suspected perpetrator, a 20-year-old citizen, resident of Drizë, in flagrante delicto.
This citizen is suspected of having, on 05.07.2026, lit a fire on land owned by his father to burn some herbs, but the flames got out of control, covering a large area in the village of Drizë and surrounding villages, causing material damage.
Police services evacuated 12 families whose homes were at risk from the spread of flames.
Thanks to the immediate intervention of the Police forces, fire services, groups of the National Security Force (FKS) - Fier Unit, as well as helicopters of the Armed Forces, it was possible to extinguish the flames, without consequences for the lives of citizens.
"The Fier Local Police Directorate appeals for maximum caution from citizens, inviting them not to take actions that could cause arson, as they will face the law ," the police announced.
