The chairman of the "Together Movement" party spoke out against agreements between the Albanian government and President Trump's son-in-law, Kushner, to build a tourist resort on the island of Sazan.
Invited to the show "The Unexposed", Qori said that Sazani will be transformed into a private island for billionaires and the only island we have as a republic is forgiving it.
"I have criticized this, we discussed it a year ago, I remain of the same position, it is extortion that is being done to the Albanian people, Sazani and Zvërnec are our assets and we cannot forgive them to anyone, whether oligarchs, foreign investors or businessmen in important countries like the USA. Mr. Rama can donate his house if he wants to Mr. Kushner or Mrs. Trump or directly to President Trump. If he wants to make a fuss, or to adjust the government's position in the USA. From the article in "The Guardian", it is understood that Sazani will be transformed into a private island for billionaires. The only island we have as a republic, an island on which we established sovereignty after World War II, we are forgiving it. Since Kushner will also receive strategic investor status, the government will provide the infrastructure, so that their billions are as safe as possible.
A problem that comes up has to do with the process, with the procedures. Someone might say we need it for tourism, we forget about nature and biodiversity. Why is there no call for an independent group of judges to examine the most interesting requests or proposals from an environmental point of view? Here the investor has been chosen before the investment as a project and this is becoming a fait accompli. I do not understand what benefit this brings to the Albanian people. I do not understand the ease with which we surrender the sovereignty of Albania. Just like in Shëngjin with the refugee camp, where Albanian law has no power.
For all these reasons, it seems to me a problematic transaction and I would like to hear as many voices as possible against such a transaction. I also notice people who justify it with alleged patriotism, since we are allies of the US, we should take care of the interests of the relatives of the US president. But, our alliance is with the US and not with businessmen or relatives of those in power in the US. The US is a more serious country than they want to portray it, with the son, brother-in-law, daughter and so on. My fear is that international relations are also misunderstood and seen as dirty partnerships with building permits ," said Qori.
