The vote recount battle in the Tirana district did not give Ilir Alimehmeti the mandate of the deputy, as he believed.
The reopening of the ballot boxes reduced the number of votes for the Democratic candidate by dozens, as they were deemed invalid. But Alimehmeti accuses the CEC's Complaints and Sanctions Commission of being part of the manipulation of the results, by incorrectly reading the ballots.
"Those who are used to putting their hands in continue to influence the counters. So, when should these votes have been valid!", says Alimehmeti.
In the wake of the election irregularities, the doctor who ran for MP describes the recount process as follows. He also expresses dissatisfaction with the electoral system, which, although among the most voted for in the DP, will not be in Parliament.
Alimehmeti also tells Top Channel about the need for internal analysis: "The principle should be that in Parliament, representatives should be those with the most votes. But this system does not allow it."
Do you think you should have had greater support from the party structure?
"This is part of the candidate's analysis or even at the district level. But there is always room for better."
Although Alimehmeti does not appear to regret his political journey so far, he seems to have plans for the future: "People without plans cannot function. At the right moment, I will separate them!"
