Landslide in Mirdita

The territory of Lezhë District has been affected by low-intensity rainfall, and snowfall at altitudes above 700 m. Currently, the rainfall has stopped, but the situation continues to be problematic.

In the Mirdita municipality it is reported:

As a result of the continued erosion of agricultural land in Zall – Donaj by the Fan i Vogël River, at around 00:00, the MV electric poles, moved the day before by OSHEE, fell again, as the erosion advanced past the place of the move, leaving the villages of Nderfanë, Gëziq, Kalanjan, Cekaj without power. The erosion is advancing towards the village road and homes.

For the above, urgent support is required from the Ministry of Agriculture through the means of DRUK Lezha, according to the request sent on 09.01.2026, where AKMC has been informed.

Another alarming problem is the exposed water supply pipeline of the city of Rrëshen and not only, from the erosion of the stream in the village of Jezull, which threatens its rupture, and with further advancement, the collapse of the road axis that connects a number of villages is also at risk.

From the latest verifications carried out by the municipality's EC structures, as a result of the rainfall of recent days, landslides have been found in several villages, which pose a risk to homes and private property.

The Kurbin municipality reports:

On the ground, the situation appears to have improved in all areas that have had problems during these days, as well as in the Fush Kuqe unit, in the Adriatik villages, water escape has continued and its level has decreased.

Yesterday, there were problems in the village of Patog, mainly in local shops and businesses due to sea tides.

Today, the verification of damages throughout the territory by working groups will continue, mainly focused on the village of Adriatik, where the damages will be more clearly ascertained after the withdrawal of the waters.

Work will continue to organize and clean the neighborhood's streets and remove inert materials or alluvium brought by the flows.

The cleaning and strengthening of the KUL along its entire length in the Mamurras Unit will also continue.

The work tools will continue to be those that have been available throughout these days, with the exception of the Armed Forces Excavator, which, after completing work in the Skuraj-Vinjollë segment, was withdrawn yesterday.

The phenomenon of landslides continues to be problematic in all hilly and mountainous areas.

The municipality of Lezha reports:

The situation appears calm in the Municipality of Lezha. During today, monitoring of the entire territory of the municipality will continue for any problems that may arise.

The working groups will continue their work on identifying and assessing the damage caused by the floods, cleaning up inert materials, waste, etc.

And today, with 5 private trucks of high tonnage 20 m3, 2 DRUK excavators; 20 employees and 3 DRUK work trucks, with the presence and support of the Municipal Police, work will continue to reinforce the Drin River embankment in the village of Ishull Shëngjin, Shëngjin administrative unit, Lezhë municipality.

The supply of drinking water has continued regularly, while the supply of energy has been affected by the problems reported above.

The level of the Drin River continues to decrease, reaching normal parameters for the period, as does the Mat River, following the reduction of discharges from the Shkopet and Qafë Mollë HPPs. No problems with road axes have been reported so far.

The level of the Ishëm River rises, the village of Murqinë isolated from the water; homes and land flooded

After the floods, frost and snow 'invade' Albania; isolated villages

During the night hours, the flows of the Ishëm River increased, bringing water levels to the villages of Bilaj, Murqinë and Mallkuç, to the same levels recorded a few days ago.

In these areas, hundreds of hectares of agricultural land continue to be flooded. The two end neighborhoods of the village of Murqinë remain completely isolated, as the water has blocked the connecting road, where its level exceeds 50 centimeters.

Although the rainfall has stopped, residents express doubts about the opening of the Bovilla gates, a factor that, according to them, has contributed to the increase in water levels.

In the village of Miliskaja, an improvement in the situation is observed. The water has started to recede, while the road and agricultural lands continue to be under water. The water has moved away from the houses.

"Dropping waste into rivers is criminal", Rama's exoneration: Istanbul was also flooded

Prime Minister Edi Rama

Rama said that such floods have occurred throughout Europe, while he stated that 10 years ago there would have been even more floods.

Prime Minister Edi Rama considered it criminal to throw waste into rivers. In the podcast 'Flasim', he said that throwing plastic bottles or bags into rivers and streets desecrates the Albanian flag and our homeland.

Rama said that there will be legal measures against those who continue to throw away waste, while promising compensation for anyone affected by the floods.

In this context, the Prime Minister said that the value of the damages has begun to be calculated, as will investments in the infrastructure damaged as a result of the floods.

"'You will never be alone' is my motto and ours whenever we face a disaster. I want to tell those affected by this disaster that we stand by them for their homes and livelihoods, for the repair of any damage we face. The plan with scenarios for compensation is now ready and the start of their distribution is expected," said the Prime Minister.

Rama said that such floods have occurred throughout Europe, while he stated that 10 years ago there would have been even more floods.

"It has not only affected our country, at least not for the reasons that are making the media buzz, but a wide map, all the way to Istanbul, where there were apocalyptic scenes."

A cold air mass from the north has collided with a warm wave from the Mediterranean, which has brought about this situation.

Climate change doesn't just mean hot summers, but also unstable seasons and persistent weather.

"More fires and floods, it is already a new climate quadrant in which we live, but I am proud that in any emergency situation we are better prepared thanks to the investments made," said Rama. (Updating)

Bad weather floods village in Lushnje

For several days, Albania has been hit by bad weather, which has caused problems in some of the country's regions, while hundreds of homes have been flooded.

While authorities on the one hand have begun assessing the damage caused by the floods, on the other hand it appears that the overflowing of riverbeds has created another flash flood.

According to the latest reports, the Semani River has overflowed its banks in the village of Murriz, while water has flooded towards homes. However, there are reports of water only in the yards of some homes and not water entering them.

The Seman River has flooded hundreds of hectares of agricultural land within the embankments in Roskovec–Patos and Fier.

Likewise, the Shkumbin River has overflowed its banks, threatening to flood at least 20 homes in the village of Thanasaj.

Emergency teams are reviewing options for evacuating residents in the most at-risk homes in this village.

Snowfall, problems with vehicle traffic

Almost all regions of the country are at risk of flooding due to rapid flooding of small mountain rivers and landslides. The alert is given by the Institute of Geosciences (IGJEO) in its forecast regarding the weather situation in Albania.

According to IGJEO, the regions at risk are: Shkodër, Kukës, Dibër, Lezhë, Durrës, Tirana, Elbasan, Fier, Vlora and Gjirokastër.

In urban areas, localized flooding problems may occur in these districts, depending on the condition of the sewers.
