The bitter news was confirmed by Qose's family members themselves through an announcement on their official Facebook page.
According to the family, the academic passed away today and was buried today with only his family members present.
At the request of the deceased, the family emphasizes that they will not organize any reception ceremonies nor will they participate in ceremonies organized by institutions.
"We announce that today, on 23.4.2026, Rexhep Qosja passed away and was buried. The funeral took place in the presence of close family members.
By the wishes of the deceased, no reception ceremony will be organized by the family. The family will not participate in institutional events.
"We ask that our privacy be respected and that we be allowed to mourn in peace!", the family said in a statement.
Who was Rexhep Qosja:
Rexhep Qosja was one of the most well-known figures of Albanian literature, literary criticism and intellectual thought. He was born on June 25, 1936 in Vuthaj (Montenegro), while his most important academic and cultural activity was carried out in Kosovo.
Qosja studied Albanian language and literature at the University of Prishtina, where he later worked as a lecturer and researcher. He became one of the leading figures at the Prishtina Institute of Albanology, where he contributed for decades to the field of literary and historical studies.

Rexhep Qosja is particularly known for his works in literary criticism, literary history, and essays. He has analyzed in depth the development of Albanian literature and its main figures.
