After more than 35 years at the helm of Vogue, Anna Wintour is reportedly set to step down as editor-in-chief of the iconic fashion magazine. The news was announced during a staff meeting on Wednesday, and several US media outlets confirmed it on Thursday.
Wintour, 75, who has led Vogue since 1988, will continue in her roles as global chief content officer at Condé Nast and global editorial director of Vogue. Representatives for the magazine have not yet commented.
The British journalist has been an active supporter of Democratic candidates for years. In March of last year, she helped organize a $25 million fundraising campaign in New York for President Biden's re-election.
The US president awarded Wintour the Presidential Medal of Freedom in January, just weeks before he left the White House. She has also appeared at state dinners, such as the 2022 one for French President Emmanuel Macron, where she appeared in her signature glasses.
In 2016, Vogue made history by publishing a political endorsement for the first time, in favor of Hillary Clinton.
Although closely associated with Democratic politics, Wintour met last month with White House chief of staff Susie Wiles to discuss the impact of Donald Trump's proposed tariffs on the fashion industry.
