New details have emerged about the murder of two young men in Great Britain by a 34-year-old Albanian.
On the morning of September 3, 2023, Emiljano Kasaj fatally hit a pedestrian, Leo Moran, and a cyclist, Joel Carriedo. Kasaj, who was an illegal immigrant, was on parole at the time of the serious incident.
In March of this year, Kasaj pleaded guilty to one count of 'attempted murder' and two counts of 'involuntary manslaughter'.
At the court session held today, security camera footage was shown showing Kasaj, who was driving a 'Mercedes Benz', speeding away from the scene and then crashing into the wall of a house.
British media report that the 34-year-old has been diagnosed with paranoid psychosis related to schizophrenia.
"He told the defence psychiatrist that, after leaving school, he had worked at a car wash and then travelled to Athens to find work. He came to the UK around two years before the offences and had settled in Coventry," British media wrote.
In August 2022, he was arrested for arriving in England illegally. On October 7 of the same year, he was released on bail to register at the Solihull Immigration Centre, but he never returned.
At the hearing held today, evidence was presented that Kasaj suffers from a serious mental illness which may have been exacerbated by the use of cannabis or cocaine before he took the lives of two British citizens.
