A case that has been hidden for many years and has only recently come to light is causing a stir. It concerns Sokol Hoxhaj, who is accused of murdering the two Banaj brothers in Patos in the bad year of 1997 (March) and an Albanian woman in August of the same year.
He is currently serving a 25-year sentence by the courts of our country, while Belgium is also seeking him to serve the sentence for the murder of Brunilda Dervishi. After committing the double murder in his country of birth, Hoxha fled, initially hiding in Greece and then moving to Belgium.
According to long-term investigations by major law enforcement agencies in Europe and beyond, Sokol Hoxha's main activity in Belgium was prostitution. Even the murder committed in this country is closely linked to this also illegal activity.
It is suspected that Sokol Hoxha had arranged a marriage with Brunilda Hoxha, but he used her for prostitution, until he shot her to death in a bar in Brussels. It is suspected that the reason for this murder was the victim's refusal to obey Hoxha in his attempt to exploit her.
According to the investigation, it is reported that after the assassination in Belgium, Hoxha moved to the United Kingdom with forged Kosovar documents, as many Albanians did at that time, taking advantage of the Kosovo war. Through these false documents, he managed to secure a residence permit in Britain.
But the fear was still present that he might be discovered, and he is suspected of making the decision to move across the Atlantic to the US in the early 2000s. He thus began a new life, with a completely different identity, but again with the heavy burden of three victims in Albania and Belgium.
After more than two decades, Albanian investigative agencies received indications that Hoxha's location was in the US, as American, Belgian, British, and Kosovar law enforcement agencies engaged in exchanging information on this criminal.

The Albanian Ministry of Justice made the next move, making an extradition request to the US in 2019. During the same period, an Albanian named Sokol Hoxha was detained in Britain, but after verification by Interpol, he was released after just a week, as it turned out to be another person, but with similar data to the wanted person.
In 2021, investigations in the US intensified and focused on the Albanian citizen who had migrated to the US in the 2000s. The investigations led investigators to the real Sokol Hoxha, matching fingerprints and photographs from that time. It was fully proven that the person with the fake passport with a new identity is Sokol Hoxha, sentenced to 25 years in prison in Albania and a life sentence in Belgium.
It is learned that on May 5 in Ohio, the man wanted for almost three decades was arrested and American authorities are evaluating further steps for the extradition and removal of this fugitive to Albania or Belgium. Sokol Hoxha is 52 years old today.
A successful conclusion to an investigation that has lasted almost 30 years for this convict, who will now have to face the law. He will probably try to use the legal annexes in the future because the crimes were committed a long time ago./TCH
