Italian police have destroyed the criminal gang of drug lord Elvis Demçe.
From this operation, 11 of the 14 people who were under investigation were arrested, while three of them are actually still wanted.
The preliminary injunction was issued by the Rome Court of Reviews, which accepted the complaint filed by the Rome Antimafia District Directorate, against all the suspects, accused of collaboration with the aim of drug trafficking, distribution, extortion and arson.
The Albanian "boss"
The measure comes at the end of a complex investigation that was conducted through wiretaps and analysis of encrypted conversations, and that began with an investigation on January 18, 2022 which had allowed the dismantling of a group of drug traffickers linked to Albanian Elvis Demçe, sentenced on December 18, 2022 to 18 years in prison.
The current investigative segment focuses on other gang members and criminal events that did not come to light in the initial investigations.
Rome-Reggio Calabria axis
Therefore, investigators believe they have determined the covert roles and tasks assigned to the various members, including the 14 arrested today. Among those arrested are several Calabrians who are said to have trafficked cocaine on the Rome-Reggio Calabria axis and are considered stable collaborators of Demce.
Large sales of cocaine, hashish and marijuana were subsequently found in the provinces of Rome and Latina, which took place between May 2020 and March 2021, and can be defined as 338 kg of cocaine, 1510 kg of hashish and 70 kg of marijuana, respectively.
Debt repayment
The police then documented a series of extortions, in particular a case where three suspected accomplices, in order to pay off a drug debt, first set fire to the debtor's betting shop in the capital's territory, and then openly threatened to kill the latter, even planning to eliminate him through checks.
By doing so, they would have managed to first receive 10 thousand euros and a luxury watch and, later, be paid another 70 thousand euros.
Death threat
Another case involves two other members of the group, along with other individuals: here too, to repay a debt incurred for the purchase of drugs, they allegedly forced a buyer, with death threats, to pay them 108 thousand euros.
Gun to the head
And again, two other accomplices, along with other individuals already convicted in another proceeding, again to pay off a drug debt, allegedly forced a cocaine buyer to go to a pine forest where they pointed a gun at his head, forcing him to pay 50 thousand euros.
