A 41-year-old man has been arrested at the Kakavija Border Crossing Point after attempting to illegally enter Albania while carrying 160,000 euros in undeclared cash.

The arrested man, Arbër Shehu, a resident of Greece, was also wanted for a theft case.

"Intensive controls by the Border Police in cooperation with Frontex, to prevent and combat cross-border crimes and to apprehend wanted citizens."

He attempted to illegally enter Albania with a significant amount of money, without declaring it to the PKK, while he was wanted for theft, the 41-year-old was caught and detained.

160,000 euros are seized.

The Kakavija Border Police Services in cooperation with Frontex services, as a result of increased controls to crack down on illegalities at the border, the detention of citizens who are reported to be wanted or those who attempt to enter or exit this crossing point, irregularly, have arrested near a gas station, at the border crossing point, in an attempt to illegally cross the border to enter Albania, citizen A. Sh., 41 years old, resident in Greece.

During the physical search of the 41-year-old, the police found several envelopes in his backpack containing 160,000 euros, which he was attempting to smuggle into Albania without declaring to the tax authorities.

Also, as a result of the verifications carried out, this citizen was declared wanted, after the Tirana Court sentenced him to 1 month in prison for the criminal offense of "Theft". Following the procedural actions carried out by the Tirana Police Department, he was detained.

"The procedural materials were passed to the Prosecutor's Office at the First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction in Gjirokastra, for further action ," the police announced.
