A large-scale drug operation has spread to at least four countries. The operation began in the early hours of today in Italy, and then continued in Albania, France and the United Kingdom.
Over 150 financial officers from the Brescia Provincial Command and SCICO, with the support of Europol, Eurojust and foreign police forces, are implementing 24 precautionary measures and seizing approximately 3 million euros, report the Italian authorities, who appear to be leading the operation.
The suspects are accused of being part of a criminal organization specializing in international drug trafficking.
The investigation, coordinated by the Anti-Mafia Prosecutor's Office of the District of Brescia, is the result of 5 years of investigative work, from 2020 to 2025, carried out in collaboration with Albanian and Swiss authorities as part of a Joint Investigation Team. The investigation relied on sophisticated techniques: decryption of encrypted conversations, telephone tapping and field surveillance.
According to investigators, the group, based in Albania and with branches in Italy, imported cocaine from South America using trade routes to the main ports of Northern Europe. The drugs were then transported to Italy by trucks, hidden inside heavy vehicles. It is reported that over 1,300 kilograms of cocaine were transported, which were distributed to six logistics bases across the country, serving as storage and distribution centers, Italian media report.
From these centers, not only drugs were managed, but also the flow of money.
The proceeds from the sales would be brought back to the organization's senior executives, while the transportation of the money would be carried out from Italy to Albania, via bus drivers, tasked with transporting large sums of cash.
During the investigation, investigators arrested 10 members of the group and seized 550,000 euros, 10 vehicles, a weapon and 130 kilograms of narcotics, cocaine and heroin, which would have brought approximately 12 million euros to the market.
More than 35 checks are underway across Italy, carried out with the help of drug sniffing and money-distribution dog units, advanced technology from SCICO (Central Organized Crime Investigation Service) and specialized military personnel from the ATPI, Anti-Terrorism and Emergency Response Units.
