Today's wave of protests, which is rightly viewed by many as a political spring chlorophyll, is neither a spontaneous movement nor an alien phenomenon on the Albanian political scene.
There is a lot of enthusiasm in the air for the protests that erupted in Zvërnec. Enthusiasm that is expressed especially in terms like "civic", "there is youth", and above all "a different spirit", a spirit that comes like the fury of a pregnant river that is flowing today, or similar metaphors, which will naturally bring other stylizations, with more or less colors.
There is reason to expect a new movement in a country where the political class has not undergone the natural dialectical evolution of the generational relay. The swampy stagnation of this political class has "happened" to have as its catalyst a marshy lagoon, which has been taken over to be turned into a giant tourist complex by a multinational financial and economic conglomerate.
The new anti-Rama movement has emerged in the squares since the end of last week, as a clear wave of contention, opposition, and even with more than strong tones.
Almost all the actors aligned against Sali Berisha have come out in support of this movement. Some more and some less, see this spark as a political spark of a new political season in the country. As an opportunity for the country to finally open a political path towards rotation, evolution, in a word, political change.
It seems like we are in a phase that has already, in fact, been growing in our stomachs for years from the almost permanent quote, from our dinner panels and from comrade Xi Jinping, namely one of the two most important people in the world, during the meeting with Donald Trump, in Beijing.
It's about the overused and even misused axiom: "Thucydides' Trap." Which means that when a new power is emerging on the scene to replace an existing power, conflict is inevitable.
To avoid this conflict from causing major upheavals and chaos, the old protocol offered a "negotiation" where Balozi and Gjergj Elez Alia, or Achilles and Hector, would duel first, and then the armies would be killed and divided as usual.
But for us, Thucydides or his modern-day successor, Harvard professor Graham Allison, is the one who gets the blame. Because here another axiom prevails: "when two people fight, a third always wins."
Today's wave of protests, which is rightly viewed by many as a political spring chlorophyll, is neither a spontaneous movement nor an alien phenomenon on the Albanian political scene.
Anyone who has a memory and records similar events, naturally comes across the wave of 2002 with the bombastic slogan "Albanian, don't stay looking" and with a hand that suddenly filled all of Tirana corner by corner, along with the Mjaft slogan that turned into a national brand that surpassed even the multimillion-dollar super marketed products.
But Mjaft was not the only actor in the game, but part of many others who entered a diversified market of ideas, but above all of political actors who did not come from March, but from both sides of politics. Where both within the majority of that time, led by Fatos Nano, or even the opposition of that time led by Sali Berisha, there were delegations, speakers, characters, and above all protesters, and propagandists.
As today, even though the DP has clearly and politically announced its distancing from the protests, its people are constantly seen in various echelons, or even through posts on social networks with videos, photos and text. Therefore, and apparently Flamur Noka has published a status where he accuses the protesters of being Soros's people. As there have been rumors that even circles within the majority have had their share in the not very homogeneous cosmos of the Zvërnec protests. Where as has been seen, in addition to a kind of protagonism competition, people from Kosovo and Greece have also been noticed. Which are indicators of an important political and diplomatic influence, which as always has its own weight and influence.
An influence that has a significant weight this time, but is this weight also guiding the face of the future opposition? This is precisely the enigma this time, because unlike in 2002, the permanent protagonist has announced the cancellation of the game.
In all likelihood, the true face of this opposition is trying to remain mysterious for some time, while it seems that Edi Rama is trying to bring it to the stage as soon as possible, while Berisha is trying to de-factor it.
