We shouldn't measure every step by how many times Marta Kos hugs and kisses us, but where we are with these conditions that must be met...
Albania went through a "stumbling block" in its EU integration journey. The IBAR report, an instrument that demonstrates the political climate and work of the candidate country, was passed after several postponements. Meanwhile, the next Albania-EU conference ended with a kiss from Marta Kos to Edi Rama.
These behaviors again prove the very warm political environment in Brussels in relation to Albania, and this is something absolutely very important for Albania.
But there's no reason for celebration or champagne. Marta's kiss isn't enough, and it's not her fault.
Now we have entered the phase where it is not our desire and willingness that is measured, but the real WORK. We can quickly close a chapter that only requires legal approximations, but the hard work lies ahead.
When we get the European passport, we will need:
-Let's hold free and fair elections!
-Let's ensure democracy within parties and end the era of parties as the private property of their leaders!
-Let's stop dark money from financing electoral campaigns and the political machinery itself!
-Let's get justice in a timely manner, without waiting 20 years for a court decision!
-Let's make public funds transparent and institutions not turn into criminal organizations like the ANA!
-We have liberated the economy from the dominance of a handful of people (companies)!
-Let's have a free media, and let TV stations not open the news with the Prime Minister's statuses on social networks!
-Let's guarantee food safety. Let's not sell yogurt with powdered milk and palm oil for sheep's yogurt, and let's not drown agricultural products with hormones to make them ripen quickly!
-Let's stop the destruction of the environment, manage urban waste, and stop the discharge of sewage into rivers and seas!
-Invest in scientific research to adapt to the challenges posed by drastic climate change!
There are many, many other conditions that we must fulfill….
Undoubtedly, we will never be able to reach German, French, and Swedish standards. But we must definitely create a basic, significant level to demonstrate political and human freedoms, an acceptable level of democracy, the functioning of the law and the state, the fight against corruption, public safety, etc.
And these are needed not because they are EU conditions, but because they are conditions to guarantee a better standard of living for us in this country.
Therefore, we should not measure each step by how many times Marta Kos hugs and kisses us, but where we are with these conditions that must be met, not on paper, but in reality!
