Today, June 7, the movement enters its eighth day. In the evening, protesters gather at Skanderbeg Square and march towards the Prime Minister's Office. The main demand remains the cancellation of the Zvërnec project and the resignation of Edi Rama. Yesterday was one of the largest protests in Tirana. Parallel rallies were held in Shkodër, Athens, Vienna, Milan and Berlin.

The same pattern is expected today. In Bologna, the protest is scheduled for 18:00 at Piazza del Nettuno. Rama's stance remains dismissive. He stated that 5 thousand people, but not even 500 thousand, will stop the project and that the investment will not stop as long as he is in office. Media reports that participation has been increasing in recent days with thousands of people in front of the Prime Minister's Office.

Advice for "Gen Z" protesters:

The protest has energy, but it needs to add some topics that directly affect the lives of young people

Money laundering in construction with permission from Edi Rama

Protesters should connect money laundering with the phenomenon of building permits being issued every day. Who are those who get building permits in Tirana and on the coast? Where does their money come from? Many of them are people who launder money earned from crime in Europe. Drug trafficking, fraud, pyramid schemes. This dirty money enters Albania, buys land, gets municipal permits and turns into palaces and hotels. Meanwhile, a simple and educated young person does not get any job or housing opportunities. The protest should shout this connection: every tower that goes up is built on the money of European crime and on the backs of young people who have nowhere to live.

Young people in call centers like Tirana's bosses versus simple, educated young people who don't get any opportunities

Protesters should show this disgusting contrast. On one side, a group of young people who work in scam centers, rob Europeans, launder money in Albania and then become the bosses of the city. Luxury cars, big apartments, dinners in places where a dish costs as much as a teacher's monthly salary. On the other side, young people who have graduated from university, speak foreign languages, read, look for work for months and find nothing. No phone calls, no interviews, no answers. The protest should raise its voice against this structural injustice. It is not fate, it is not hard work. It is a dirty economy that rewards cheaters and punishes the educated.

Some launder criminal money in Europe and obtain building permits, others defraud and steal from Europe and launder money in Albania.

Protesters must clearly explain this vicious circle. There are two streams of dirty money entering Albania through construction. The first comes from serious crime in Europe, such as drug, arms and prostitution trafficking. The second comes from fraud committed by Albanians themselves against European citizens. Both streams are laundered in the same way: by obtaining building permits, by building palaces and hotels on the coast, by buying properties in Tirana. The protest should not be just against a project in Zvërnec. The protest should be against this entire system that allows criminal money to be turned into concrete and honest young people to remain outside the system.

Why this protest is not about Zvërnec but about your future

The protest could come up with clear demands that link money laundering to the lives of young people. First, the publication of every building permit issued in the last 5 years along with the source of financing. Second, a ban on issuing permits to any person who has been involved in money laundering. Third, the creation of a national housing fund for educated youth that is financed by the seizure of properties built with dirty money. These are not impossible demands. They are demands that put a finger on the wound.

Until when will the young people from call centers be the bosses of Tirana while you who have read and studied will wander the streets in vain? The eighth day of protest has the power to change this, but only if it does not stop looking only for Zvërnec.

Protesta flet shqip. Protesta ngjan me një buqetë me lule shumëngjyrëshe. Antimitingjet i ngjajnë një buqete me disa gjëmbaç gomari.
