Anyone who buys a vehicle abroad and brings it to Albania will pay more for customs clearance. From 130 thousand lek up until now, the declared value at customs of a vehicle with a cylinder capacity of up to 1 thousand 400 cubic meters cannot be less than 162 thousand 500 lek.
For vehicles with cylinders from 1900 to 2500 cubic meters, the floor value increases to 406 thousand lek from 325 thousand from 2018 to now.
The strongest growth is noted in vehicles with cylinders over 4,500 cubic centimeters. From 800,000 lek currently, a car with this engine power cannot be declared for less than 1 million lek.
The Ministry of Finance's instruction, published in the Official Gazette, "On the valuation of goods for customs purposes", now in force, also brings a significant increase in the reference prices for customs clearance of pickup trucks, lorries or vans.
For vehicles in one of these categories weighing up to 1.5 tons, the minimum price to be declared at customs increases to 500 thousand lek from 400 thousand.
For pickup trucks, vans or trucks weighing from 3.5 to 10 tons, the floor price for declaration increases to over 1 million lek from 850 thousand lek.
The directive, which specifically affects used vehicles, aims to avoid under-declaring the values of vehicles imported from abroad. This means that, even if a vehicle is purchased very cheaply abroad, Customs will not value it below the established limits.
