In the Albanian market, the price of oil has increased today, becoming 25 lek more expensive compared to March 4, when the first increase was recorded.
The Minister of Economy and Innovation, Delina Ibrahimaj, together with the Minister of Finance Petrit Malaj and the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Enea Karakaci, held a meeting with the main companies in the hydrocarbon sector and the leaders of the Hydrocarbons Association.
The meeting was held in the context of monitoring the situation of fuel prices and recent developments in international markets. In the Albanian market, the price of oil has increased today, becoming 25 lekë compared to March 4, when the first increase was recorded.
During the discussions, the price performance on the Platts Mediterranean Exchange, which serves as a reference for diesel and gasoline, was analyzed, as well as the relationship between import prices, wholesale and retail prices in the domestic market.
The parties agreed to increase transparency and regular exchange of information on price movements, in order to keep the situation under control and guarantee market stability.
In this context, the Ministry of Economy and Innovation will undertake several measures, including the establishment of a daily mechanism for monitoring hydrocarbon prices in the domestic market, periodic analysis of the ratio between prices on the Platts exchange, import prices and market sales prices, as well as continuous coordination with market operators and the Hydrocarbons Association.
On the other hand, the Ministry of Finance will create a joint task force between the tax and customs administration to increase control and efficiency in the hydrocarbon sector, both in wholesale and retail trade.
This structure will also monitor profit margins along the entire fuel trading chain, from import to sale to the final consumer, with the aim of ensuring that any price changes reflect real international market developments.
According to the authorities, the current situation in international markets requires a rapid institutional response to maintain market stability and protect the interests of Albanian consumers. The institutions announce that they will continue daily monitoring of the domestic market and international stock exchanges to intervene in case of unjustified price deviations.
The Ministry of Economy and Innovation will take the following measures:
• establishing a daily monitoring mechanism for hydrocarbon prices in the domestic market;
• periodic analysis of the relationship between Platts exchange prices, import prices and market sales prices;
• continuous coordination with market operators and the Hydrocarbons Association to guarantee transparency and stability in the market;
• Periodically informing the public about price developments and the factors that influence them.
The Ministry of Finance will establish a joint task force between the tax and customs administration, which will be tasked with:
• increasing tax and customs control and efficiency in the hydrocarbon sector, in wholesale and retail trade, in order to avoid abusive increases in fuel trading prices;
• monitoring profit margins throughout the hydrocarbon trading chain, from the moment of import to retail sale, to ensure that any price changes reflect real international market developments;
• ensuring that the activities of the entities are carried out in accordance with the law, that every sale is fiscally registered and that the traded fuel meets all customs and tax obligations.
