Two worlds, two positions on the war in Ukraine

Two worlds, two positions on the war in Ukraine
Volodymyr Zelensky and Pope Leone /

The Pope's moral approach and Trump's market approach; the two faces of the West vis-à-vis Russia...

In times of war, it's not just tanks that speak, but words too, and sometimes, the softest voices are the ones that sound the loudest. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has invited Pope Francis to visit Ukraine; a call that goes beyond politics: it's an appeal to global conscience.

If this visit takes place, it will be much more than a symbolic act: it will be a moral intervention in a conflict where justice is often suppressed by power, and where victims have neither voice nor representation.

The Pope does not promise weapons, but he gives hope. He does not offer technical solutions, but he holds up a mirror to reflect on what we have done as a society to stop barbarity.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the Western spectrum, Donald Trump is articulating an approach that is more like a war bargain than an offer for peace. In his recent statements, Trump has called on Ukraine to withdraw from Donbas to avoid “greater losses,” a kind of blackmail diplomacy that enfranchises the aggressor and reduces national sovereignty to a bargaining chip.

This contrast is shocking: on one side, the Pope who speaks of peace with dignity and justice, and on the other side, a politician who sees war as an opportunity to renegotiate borders and other interests.

Trump doesn't care about the victims, the children under the rubble, or the international rights being violated. He speaks the language of a cold victor, one who sees peace as a transaction, not as a process of reconciliation and justice.

If the West chooses Trump's path, then it accepts a world where the strongest makes the law. If it follows the Pope's message, it chooses a model where the victim also has a voice, and where peace is not built on the ruins of justice.

History will remember not only what happened in Ukraine, but also how it was responded to. On a world stage that has forgotten the line between compromise and cynicism, the Pope's message comes as a reminder of what we have lost: morality as a basis for politics. And perhaps, for humanity as well…/ Pamphlet

Por aq me keq edhe fati i Europes apo me gjere.
