The Special Prosecution Office seems to have become part of the May 11 elections. Although not directly, the actions of recent days clearly prove that the race is not only between the SP and the DP, but SPAK has entered the middle and the political balance depends on the prosecution body.
The arrest of Ilir Meta and Erion Veliaj before the elections was the first move. Even if it was unintentional, their detention undoubtedly had an impact on the May 11 vote. Rama sensed it and therefore set himself in motion, going from dawn to dusk to the Tirana City Hall, as he fears that his votes will be stolen.
On the other hand, with Meta's arrest, the Freedom Party has gone bankrupt, as it does not exist in the polls.
But what has scared Rama and Berisha is the group that has set up SPAK for the May 11 elections. Rama considered it absurd to monitor parties, while Berisha today attacked SPAK, not having confidence in this structure to stop vote buying.
But if we look at the draft drafted by SPAK, there is a very important element, which has already begun to be implemented today. SPAK announces that it will put all criminal groups under monitoring, to prevent interference in the elections.
" Involving investigative groups in the field to monitor in real time situations for which there may be indications of the commission of criminal offenses in the framework of the 2025 Assembly elections. Identifying not only specific entities or individuals involved in active and passive corruption in the elections, but also structured criminal groups suspected of influencing the elections ," the document states.
It is also announced that this strategy aims to prevent the influence of organized crime on the integrity of the electoral process, through concrete measures and the most effective use of special investigative techniques. According to information, there are expected to be wiretapping, field monitoring and frequent checks with the start of the campaign.
We all know that both political groups have had gang connections. The SP has recently come out in the open, as the famous wiretaps that were released for files 339 and 184 clearly showed how crime was gathering votes for the Socialists. SPAK vows to stop this and apparently this has Rama worried.
We do not know how far the prosecution will go, but today the first signal was given. Safet Bajri, one of the well-known names in crime in Shkodra, was arrested. He has often been accused of interfering in the campaign. Even former Prime Minister Berisha has often accused him of going out in an armored car to exert pressure in the elections.
