Trump may have decided on Ukraine's main desire for Tomahawk weapons

The outcome of Donald Trump's phone call with Vladimir Putin today will set off alarm bells in Ukraine. Trump said he had made "great progress" with Putin and looked forward to a face-to-face meeting with the Russian leader in Budapest soon to discuss how to end the war.

But Ukraine will no doubt be skeptical of any perceived idea that Putin wants to end the conflict: Russia has shown little inclination to stop the fighting, despite repeated pleas and deadlines issued by Washington.

Volodymyr Zelensky will be at the White House tomorrow, where he is expected to ask Trump for permission to use long-range American Tomahawk missiles, strengthening Kiev's position in the war.

Some Russian diplomats have warned the US against the "dangerous move" and Blevins says Trump's recent success in ending the war in Gaza, as well as his phone call with Putin today, could mean he has now made up his mind.

We are clearly in a week where the president is in diplomacy mode. Fresh from his breakthrough in the Middle East, he is very eager to end the war between Russia and Ukraine as soon as possible.
