The troubles for Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić seem to have no end, after massive student protests over allegations of corruption and authoritarianism in the country, another scandal involving his brother, Andrej Vučić, has erupted in Serbia.
Serbian media "radar.nova.rs" has published an audio recording of a meeting that took place in 2017 between Dušan Borkovic and Branko Malovic, who talk about the allocation of 58.7 million dinars received from the Municipality of Pancevo for their companies involved in motorsports.
In this audio recording, as reported by this media outlet, Borkovic expresses his dissatisfaction with the distribution of the money. Throughout the conversation, Borkovic refers to Vučić's brother, Andrej Vučić, and Nikola Petrovic, who is known in Serbia as "the president's godfather."
The then mayor of Pancevo, Sasha Pavlov, was also present at this meeting, but the audio recording shows that he barely participated in the conversation.
The famous Serbian racing driver, Dušan Borković, who received financial assistance from the city of Pancevo, at one point felt dissatisfied with the amount he was supposed to receive, but also with the fact that he had to return part of the money received. He discussed this "problem" directly with the progressive eminence grise Branko Malović, the deputy chairman of the Executive Board of the Serbian Progressive Party.
As "radar.nova.rs" reports, based on this interception, it is seen that the initiator of all this is Vučić's brother, Andrej Vučić.
The conversation is long and often unclear, especially when Borković and Malović speak at the same time, but from what is heard it is very clear that they are discussing money and are witnessing how the distribution of money from the state treasury is decided outside the institutions, within an informal group. At that time, neither the president's brother, nor his godfather, nor Malović held any state position, but their influence in such deals was indisputable, as confirmed by Borković himself.
" From this part of the conversation, in addition to the fact that the president's brother initiated it, it can be seen that there was an intermediary between him and Malović regarding the money that Borković received. Later, when they return to this topic, they mention Aleksandar Farkaš, who before the SNS was a member of the Pančevo City Council responsible for sports ," writes "radar.nova.rs".
Part of the intercept, published by radar.nova.rs:
Dušan Borkovič : I talked to Andrej for three hours when that unpleasant event happened... It was me, I personally told Andrej that my money would be reduced, he said in this tone: "If no one has ever told you a dinar. Don't let them extort you, let them pay you everything." With these words, he told me that he didn't want to cause further problems. That unfortunate event came to light, we never saw each other, it came out only because of my ex, I don't know if he is your current or former boyfriend...
Branko Malovic : Mine never was.
Dušan Borkovič : The one who trapped you with me and them, said that as a trap with some numbers, I had to give some big numbers, he obviously took the numbers because you didn't get... (it's unclear what he says) information... He says it's because of your money. He was hiding in the forest, while the man was lying in the hospital. I told Andrej everything and then Stefanovic took me out. All because of that damn money. It's not the money that matters, the important thing is that he told me that he's setting me up...
Malovic : Who am I putting up with?
Dušan Borkovic : No, a man raised you.
Branko Malovic : He can't set the menu. (unclear) He's stupid.
Dušan Borkovic : Okay, then I've trapped you. Tell me what happened.
Malovic : First you come to me and say, friend, I have such and such a problem, so and so, if you understand? That was the only thing that bothered me in the whole story.
Dušan Borkovic : It's clear that this still bothers you to this day.
Branko Malovic : It doesn't bother me. Andrej, if he said that much, I'll hear from you tomorrow, I'll tell him what and how.
Dušan Borkovic : He told me, literally, if it was possible last year, then how can they give you the same thing (without understanding it). So the point was that last year there were no legal problems, and now there are big legal problems... And now the city is dying, everything is dying because of me... Andrej knows how much I gave to a foreigner, I would never say anything to him... to a foreigner and Serbia in general... And if all this will thunder because of me... then it's all real, I don't know what is real, I mean, I know that no one will say this because he supports me, just like I support him and Alek. So, I don't want to go into details, but my season when it is questioned after all the results I have achieved this year deserves to go on a high level because last year you didn't say anything. And you didn't have a problem when there was so much money, you didn't, and now it's a problem.
Branko Malovic : 58 million is not controversial, 80 is controversial. I didn't want to give 80 million.
Dušan Borkovič : Andrej told me: Don't let anyone bother you, I will only be angry with you if you ever give money to someone else in your life, which I heard, and so on. And we can talk about it, I have nothing, I have nothing to hide, I talk to him often because of the competitions and everything, because of all the bad things that I have unfortunately. I don't want to talk to him about that nonsense anymore, and I won't talk to him, I love him, he helped me, Alek helped me when no one helped me, I am with Nikola Petrović every day. They are the friends I love. And I help them, they help me. If I had such problems, I don't think about it, I really don't think about it. So, no... I'm not threatening you, I'm not threatening you... I had a problem when it came to me, I mean a problem... if any of your fighters, these MMA fighters, come to fight me... I heard that I'm going to get beaten, that they're going to wait for me in front...
Branko Malovic: What are you talking about, man?
Dušan Borkovic : He told me that...
Branko Malovic : Do you think I'm crazy?
Dušan Borkovič : And do you know how much money he told me to return last year? 80 million, 80 he told me to return... I have no idea how much money you have... after that he bought an apartment, then another one... where did he get the money, what is it about? He lent me 15,000 euros... (I don't understand what he says) he lent me, once he lent 15 and another time he took 15 from the company... I didn't want to pay him back, I owed him (unclear).... So here it is. He hooked me, I got on thin ice... And as for who stole the money, it's better to keep quiet, I don't think I know exactly... (it's not clear what he says)... And I don't even know what he's doing, I didn't see him, I didn't hear him... They told me you didn't force him...
Borkovic says : Aca said you have to be given money, otherwise it will fly.
Malovic then asks : Farkash
Borkovic confirms : Yes, Farkashi...
So Malovic replies : Farkashi is talking nonsense.
Borković then refers back to the Vučić brothers and describes how he has a good relationship with them. He tells Malović about the then Prime Minister of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić: When I was with Alek, Alek told me: You are the only one who had the courage to bring up my name and to be known by name by all those who supported him. So I support them so much (unintelligible)... I can't believe what happened.
