Several US military aircraft were seen flying over Caribbean waters on Monday, in the area between the coast of Venezuela and the island of Curacao, a distance of about 65 kilometers. The movements were identified through the well-known flight tracking platform, FlightRadar24, reported the Spanish agency Efe.
According to published data, at least one B-52 strategic bomber, two F/A-18 fighter jets and an E-2 aircraft, specialized in early warning and air operations control, have passed over the area.
The increased military activity comes at the same time as a series of commercial flight cancellations to and from Venezuela. This comes after the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) urged airlines to exercise “extreme caution” when flying over Venezuelan territory. Since the warning on Saturday, at least 22 flights departing from Caracas have been canceled.
