Britain has sent a senior officer and a small team to Israel to help international efforts to monitor the ceasefire in Gaza, Defence Secretary John Healy announced, according to Sky News.
Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu dismissed National Security Adviser Tzachi Hanegbi. Local media reported that Hanegbi himself announced the prime minister's decision, while also calling for a "full investigation into the October 7 failure, in which I was complicit."
Netanyahu "informed me today of his intention to appoint a new chairman of the National Security Council," Hanegbi said. "In light of this, my term ends today. Of course, I will be available to my successor if necessary."
According to Ynt, the decision was related to differences of opinion with the prime minister regarding the conduct of the war and was uncertain given that Hanegbi had opposed the occupation of Gaza City and had not participated in Netanyahu's recent visit to Washington.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu thanked Tzachi Hanegbi for his "services as National Security Advisor (NSC)" and wished him "much success for the future and good health."
In a statement, Netanyahu's office said the prime minister intended to "immediately appoint Gil Reich," the organization's second-ranking official, as interim director of the NSC.
