Tensions between the United States and Venezuela have deepened significantly after the revelation that US President Donald Trump has given official authorization for the CIA to undertake covert operations inside Venezuelan territory. The US foreign intelligence agency, known for using special units in missions classified as “Black Ops”, has reportedly begun or is in the planning stages for secret missions in the Latin country.
The aim of these operations is to increase pressure on President Nicolás Maduro, the political heir of Hugo Chávez, to favor, as official Caracas suspects, a regime change scenario directed from abroad.
For the Venezuelan government, the intensification of US intelligence activity and military movements covered by diplomacy are clear evidence of political aggression and an attempt at deliberate destabilization. Caracas has described this as a flagrant interference in national sovereignty and a direct threat to regional security.
In this context, all of Latin America could become another hotbed of open tension. The possibility of the situation degrading into an armed conflict, with incalculable consequences for the political and military balances in the Western Hemisphere, cannot be ruled out.
The world is becoming increasingly complex and unstable.
