The Chief of Iran's General Staff met with Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei and received from him "new directives for carrying out military operations and decisively confronting opponents," the semi-official Fars news agency reported today.
According to Fars, Ali Abdullahi, who heads the Khattam al-Anbiya Central Military Command, informed Khamenei about the readiness of the country's armed forces.
However, it was not known when the meeting took place.
"The armed forces are ready to confront any action by the American-Zionist (Israeli) enemies. In the event of any mistake by the enemy, Iran's response will be flexible, destructive and decisive," Abdullahi reportedly said.
Meanwhile, the United States is awaiting Iran's response to the latest American peace proposal, while the fragile ceasefire between the parties continues to hold.
US President Donald Trump said he expects a response from Tehran "very soon" on the draft that aims to end the war and pave the way for more detailed negotiations.
On Saturday, Trump attended the Virginia Golf Tournament, while on his social network Truth Social he published a series of posts that alternated between political developments and personal messages. In two photos created with artificial intelligence, sunken ships are shown addressed to the Iranian naval fleet, while in another Trump is seen looking through binoculars at ships exploding at sea with the message that "this is what awaits Iran if it does not accept the deal."
US diplomacy has intensified contacts to ensure an agreement is reached. According to Axios reports, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and White House envoy Steve Witkoff met in Miami with Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.
Qatar is playing a key mediating role between Washington and Tehran, in an effort to avoid further escalation of the conflict and guarantee the continuation of the ceasefire.
Sources familiar with the negotiations say the US and Iran are discussing a preliminary memorandum that would serve as the basis for a broader political and military agreement. The document aims not only to stop the clashes but also to create a stable framework for negotiations to normalize the situation in the region.
