Lavrov: Trump, the only Western representative who speaks about the "root causes" of the war in Ukraine

Shortly before announcing a surprise meeting with Vladimir Putin, former US President Donald Trump has been praised again by the Kremlin for his approach to the invasion of Ukraine.

In an interview published today, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated that "Trump and his team are the only representatives from the Western camp who have spoken publicly about the real causes of the conflict in Ukraine."

According to the Russian perspective, one of these "root causes" is the West's attempt to "pull Ukraine towards NATO," Lavrov stressed.

He added that Trump's willingness to discuss "territories and borders" constitutes an unprecedented act of "reality acceptance" by a Western leader.
